Das Gruppentier Ossi. Sich selbst gerne als Teil eines Kollektives begreifend, der Welt gegenüber ängstlich, so heißt es. Hinzu kommen Unwissen und eine aktuelle Welle von Ostalgieverdummung im Fernsehen und im Kino. Was sich bei mir nach ausführlicher Recherche über das Leben der Achtziger-Jahre-Jugend in der DDR an Erkenntnis formte, hat mich dazu gebracht, einen Film zu produzieren. Am deutlichsten fand ich das Lebensgefühl im Breakdance zum Ausdruck gebracht, einer westlichen Kultur. Viele fragen ja, Breakdance in der DDR? Gab es das überhaupt? Wie ich herausfand: ja. Und noch vieles mehr! Der Film, eine Dokumentation, erzählt einen tragisch-komischen Stoff, der als fiktionale Story von einem Drehbuchautoren nicht besser hätte erzählt werden können. Es ist die Geschichte der Entwicklung einer Kultur, die in den Kinderzimmern der Jugendlichen zaghaft sich zu bilden begann und es schließlich bis auf ein paar der größten Bühnen der DDR schaffte. Von der Straße in die Jugendclubs. Und Jugendclubs hieß damals nun mal: Jugendclubs der FDJ. Entgegen der weitverbreiteten Meinung ging es inhaltlich aber nicht um Pioniere, Stasi und Bananen. Wie in jedem Land beschäftigten die Jugendlichen Themen wie Orientierung und die Frage nach der eigenen Zugehörigkeit. Und: Auch in der DDR hatte man natürlich Träume. So erzählen die Protagonisten vor der Kamera, wie sie die Antworten, jeder auf seine Art und Weise, im Breakdance, im HipHop gefunden haben. Sie erzählen, allesamt der Zeit entstammend, in der sich die Szenen maßgeblich bildete, ihre Geschichte von den Anfängen ´82/ ´83, über ihre Jugend im Glashaus und den Wandel mit der Wende, bis hin zu dem, was sich heute daraus entwickelt hat. Mehr als 20 Jahre deutsche Geschichte aus Sicht einer Generation, die bisher noch nicht gefragt wurde.
The Herd Animal OSSI. Supposedly, they like to see themselves as part of a larger whole and are frightened of the outside world. There is also a lot of ignorance regarding their lifestyle and a current trend in the media of romanticizing everything associated with East Germany. Careful research gave me a lot of insight into the life of young people in East Germany during the Eighties and this is what made me want to do the movie. I found their lifestyle to be most poignantly expressed in the break-dance movement – a Western development really. A lot of people are sceptical: Breakdance in East Germany? Did it really exist? I found out that it did indeed and a lot more than that. HERE WE COME is a docu-mentary, part comic, part tragic which couldn't have been told better by a script-writer. It is about the development of a whole culture from its beginnings in the youngster's family homes up to some of East Germany's largest stages. It follows them from the streets into the youth clubs, which were then communist youth clubs, of course. Contrary to the prevalent view, however, the movement wasn't about pioneers, Stasi and bananas. Much like in every other country East Germany's youth was concerned with orientation and a feeling of belonging. Of course, they also had dreams. And so the protagonists – each in his or her personal way - told their story to the camera on how they found what they were looking for in breakdance and the HipHop movement.All of them are part of the generation which shaped this culture. In HERE WE COME they tell their story: the beginnings in 82/83, what it was like to grow up in a 'glasshouse', the changes the movement underwent, what happened after the wall came down and how it is still cultivated today.More than twenty years of German History, told by a generation which simply hasn't been asked before.
